Boise State vs. Colorado State prediction: Broncos won’t cover

Coming into Thursday night’s Mountain West Conference matchup with Colorado State, it was widely expected we’d have a much different outlook on the Boise State Broncos. That would have required, however, a win against BYU, or at least a competitive performance. Neither was the case this past week.

Nevertheless, a new opportunity presents itself for Boise State (2-1), as it hosts the 1-1 Rams. This line opened with the Broncos as a 14-point favorite, and the total at 60.5. The spread hasn’t changed at BetMGM, but the total has risen to 61.5. Don’t be surprised to see the total continue to creep up as we near kickoff. Both of these teams allow 31 points and more than 400 total yards per game.

While Boise State has won all nine previous matchups against CSU, don’t be too eager to rush to the counter to lay two touchdowns. The Broncos’ quarterback situation remains uncertain as starter Hank Bachmeier has been out, and backup Jack Sears suffered a concussion in the first quarter against BYU. That left true freshman Cade Fennegan to take over. Overall, though, he had a decent performance (15-26, 182 yards, two touchdowns, one interception).

Quarterback Patrick O’Brien has done a serviceable job for Colorado State thus far, and if his offensive line can give him time, expect him to take advantage of this lackluster Boise State defense.

The play: Colorado State, +14.
