Pac-12 football prediction: Bet Arizona State, California as champs

The return of Pac-12 football is still two weekends away, but it’s not too early to get money down on the futures odds to win the conference title. At BetMGM, the favorites are Oregon (+190), USC (+210), Washington (9/2) and Utah (7/1). But let’s look down the board a little deeper to find two live long shots capable of lighting up the tote board.

Critics howled at Arizona State’s hire of Herm Edwards, but he’s 15-11 in two seasons with the Sun Devils. He also has a future star at quarterback in sophomore Jayden Daniels. Arizona State has a little rebuilding to do, but Edwards has recruited well.

California coach Justin Wilcox always puts a tough defense on the field, and he has a quarterback who can win in junior Chase Garbers. If the favorites falter in the North or South, the Golden Bears and Sun Devils are in positions to surprise.

The dead-money team is Colorado (100/1). New coach Karl Dorrell said he expects Colorado to compete for the conference title, but is delusional if he actually believes that.

The Plays: Arizona State (11/1) and California (20/1) to win the Pac-12 championship.
