Their chickens have come home to roost.
Seven teenagers have been charged for the New Jersey farm break-in that went viral after they were seen riding a miniature donkey — and even smearing one with lipstick.
The Wyckoff Police Department announced Tuesday that the seven — none of whom were identified — were charged with trespassing, criminal mischief and overloading animals.
Six are 17-year-old juveniles — three boys from Wyckoff, as well as three girls from nearby Oradell — and their cases will be handled behind closed doors in Superior Court in Hackensack, the local Daily Voice said. They were not identified because of their ages.
The eldest of the group, an 18-year-old boy from Wyckoff, is charged as an adult and will appear before a municipal court judge, the paper said. Police have yet to reveal his identity.
The incident went viral last month after a group of teens broke into the petting zoo at Abma’s Farm and took social media images of themselves harassing the animals.
“The safety of OUR animals has been compromised and that IS. NOT. OKAY,” the Bergen County farm said in a Facebook post at the time, noting the animals were “shaken” from their “normal relaxed nature.”
“This is very troubling to us,” the post said, as an online fundraiser helped raise $2,244 toward extra security at the farm to avoid repeat attacks.
