Top chef David Bouley tries again to sell stunning Manhattan loft
Top chef David Bouley is listing his Tribeca home for $4.45 million — down from its original $5.5 million ask with a different brokerage firm in 2018.
The stunning three-bedroom, 2½-bathroom duplex loft is in a 19th-century building at 161 Duane St. called the Mohawk Atelier.
The 2,403-square-foot condo features a dream open chef’s kitchen/entertaining space and original details that include cast iron steel columns, exposed wooden beams and brick walls.
Over-the-top details include a woodburning fireplace with the same La Pierre Doree limestone quarry used at the Palace of Versailles in France.
There’s also an arched brick entrance that leads to the Zen-like master suite, custom built-ins and oversized windows with walnut wood-bench seating and tree-top views. Bouley bought the loft, which overlooks Duane Park, for $3.2 million in 2007.
The building itself features two towers designed and developed by Joseph Pell Lombardi — one tower, which dates back to 1845, was once a whalebone cutting facility.
The other was built in 1892.
Bouley’s home straddles both — which means it has even more exposed brick and cast iron than typical for even Tribeca, the Manhattan neighborhood known for such details due to its many conversions of warehouses and industrial structures to residential buildings.
The listing broker is “Million Dollar Listing” reality star Ryan Serhant, who just launched his own brokerage firm, Serhant, and is also launching a new TV channel, “Listed,” on Youtube next month.
Serhant tells Gimme Shelter that this is a perfect family home that “works well for post-COVID living.”
Parents can live/work from the upstairs floor with the master suite, while kids can live and study in the two bedrooms downstairs.
The two levels are connected joined by a beautiful custom wood staircase. The condo also has private elevator access.
We hear that Bouley is selling, in part, because he spends so much time at his weekend home upstate. Over the summer, he closed Michelin-starred Bouley at Home, his more casual, tasting-menu restaurant and cooking school in the Flatiron District, according to Eater.
Bouley at Home opened in 2017 — the same year he closed Bouley, his 30-year-old Tribeca restaurant. The following year he closed Brushstroke, his Japanese restaurant in the same neighborhood. But Bouley is planning to reopen a restaurant in Tribeca again soon, so stay tuned.
