Biden accuses Trump of forgetting the American worker as he begins tour of Ohio, Pa.
Former Vice President Joe Biden accused President Trump for forgetting the American worker as he embarked Wednesday on a whistle stop tour of battleground states Ohio and Pennsylvania – a day after he and the president sparred during a contentious debate.
Speaking at an Amtrak station in Cleveland, the Democratic presidential nominee pressed the idea that the election is about the difference between people in his hometown of Scranton, Pa., and Park Avenue and said he will work for all Americans – Republican or Democrat – if elected.
“This election is supposed to be about you .. and all the people I grew up with in Scranton, and people in Youngstown and Claymont, Del. All the people who make a difference,” he said.
He questioned whether Trump can connect with the average American worker as he prepared to set off on his “Build Back Better Train Tour” that includes stops in Alliance, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, as well as other towns in Pennsylvania like Greensburg, Latrobe and Johnstown.
“Does your president understand at all what you’re going through? What so many other people are going through? Question is: Does he see you where you are and where you want to be? Does he care? Has he tried to walk in your shoes and understand what’s going on in your life?,” Biden asked.
“I think it is more than ignoring us. I look at things from a Scranton perspective, he looks at it from Park avenue and I think he that basically looks down on us,” he added.
Biden and Trump clashed for 90 minutes in Tuesday’s debate over the Supreme Court, the coronavirus that has killed more than 202,000 people, and the economy the pandemic has left in tatters, during a raucous and freewheeling slugfest that was punctuated with the candidates talking over each other and exchanging nasty personal attacks.
Trump often sparred with Fox News’ Chris Wallace, the debate’s moderator, and wondered if it was two against one on stage.
At one contentious exchange, Wallace told the president “you’re debating him.”
“I guess I’m debating you, not him,” Trump replied. “But that’s OK, no surprise.”
