The Mets had every team lose that they needed to over the weekend in order to make the playoffs…but they could not take care of business themselves. It was the telling sign of the 2020 Mets, who were not able to put any kind of win streak together down the stretch, missing out on the playoffs once again. To break down a disappointing season and look ahead to an intriguing offseason led by new ownership, Nelson Figueroa and I bring you a brand new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast. This was our season finale episode. We will return once there is some Mets news in the coming weeks.
I open up the podcast talking about how frustrating it was for the Phillies, Giants and Brewers all to lose, but the Mets not be able to beat the Nationals. They had a playoff spot handed to them and they did not capitalize in what was a 2020 season to forget. Figgie responds with the Marlins being able to overcome everything they went through from all the positive COVID-19 tests to all the minor leaguers they threw out there and make the playoffs, while the Mets are not. We talk about the good, bad and ugly with this team. Who is staying and who is going? How many starting pitchers do the Mets need to go sign? Will they get Trevor Bauer and J.T. Realmuto? Should they get George Springer or another center fielder? What happens at shortstop? We talk about the future with Steve Cohen at the helm, spending money in a new dawn for the Mets. Figgie and I look back at a fun first season of the show, all the great guests we had and looking ahead to broadcasts next season at the stadium and getting fans more involved with the show.
