Nick Foles leads Bears to comeback win in brewing QB controversy

After the Bears started the second half down 16-10 against the Falcons Sunday afternoon, they quickly gave up 10 more points to Atlanta, prompting head coach Matt Nagy to replace quarterback Mitch Trubisky with backup Nick Foles.

Foles came in just 5:02 into the third after Trubisky threw a pick on the Bears’ opening drive of the second half. Tribusky had completed 13-for-22 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown prior to being benched.

Nagy initially didn’t get the spark he was hoping to as Foles threw an interception on his first drive of the game on a jump ball that was ruled a touchdown before it was overturned upon review. But Foles proceeded to throw three touchdowns to lead the Bears to a massive comeback win, 30-26, over the Falcons.

All three of Foles’ touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. He threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham, a 37-yard TD to Allen Robinson and a 28-yard score to Anthony Miller with 1:53 left in the game as the Bears improved to 3-0.

After the game, Nagy wouldn’t say who would be the Bears’ quarterback for Week 4 against the Colts. “We just want to enjoy the win tonight,” Nagy said.

In his first two games this season, Trubisky, 26, recorded 432 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. He began the season on the hot seat after the Bears acquired Foles, the Super Bowl LII MVP with the Eagles, during the offseason.

Meanwhile, it’s the second week in a row the Falcons collapsed after they blew a 20-point lead to the Cowboys in a Week 2 loss.
