Florida deputy responds to alligator report, finds pool toy instead

What a croc!

Authorities in Florida went to check out a report of an alligator staking out a shed in Polk County — only to find it was a gator-shaped pool floatie.

“Deputy Trexler went to a call about an alligator in a storage shed. He came…he saw…he conquered the beast,” the Polk County Sheriff tweeted Wednesday, along with a picture of the deputy pretending to wrestle the gator

“He even knocked the wind out of it. Literally. The gator turned out to be a pool floatie.”

The joke then tailed off into a debate about whether the float was actually a representation of an alligator — or crocodile.

“This is funny, but as longtime Floridians y’all should know that’s a croc float not a gator. Notice the V shaped snout and teeth showing,” tweeeted Gene Wexler, an anchor for the Orlando-based WBDO readio station, in response.

That’s when the Polk County Sheriff’s office dusted off the evidence.

“EXHIBIT A:” the sheriff’s office responded, with a screenshot of what appears to the exact same float online for sale.

“Inflatable Realistic Alligator Ride On Gator Kids Toy,” the product was titled.
