Florida boy survived deadly home invasion, called 911 while attacker was in home

A granddad and uncle were beaten to death with a baseball bat during a home invasion this week in Florida, but a brave 10-year-old boy survived the massacre by hiding in a bathroom — and called cops while the attacker was still inside the house, police said.

The boy, who lives at the Windermere home with his grandparents, called 911 late Thursday from a bathroom after a suspect identified by cops as Ezekiel Emanuel Hopkins allegedly attacked his grandparents, John and Lisa Savey, both 61, when the couple tried to stop him from stealing their car, WKMG reports.

A police dispatcher kept the boy, who was not hurt, on the phone as he hid from Hopkins in a bathroom, Windermere police told the station.

Police said Hopkins allegedly killed John Savey with a baseball bat, and then turned the weapon on Lisa Savey and her son, James Savey, 30, who was also killed during the home invasion.

Lisa Savey, who was wounded, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, police told the station.

Hopkins, who is facing two counts of murder and aggravated battery charges, was found by cops in another bathroom inside the home, where he apparently drank bleach after the attack, police said.

Hopkins, who was arrested at the scene, was taken to a hospital because he was not responsive when cops arrived, WKMG reports.
