Yankees’ Gleyber Torres hit by pitch, leaves game vs. Orioles

Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres left Thursday night’s game against the Orioles in Baltimore in the fourth inning after getting hit in the right elbow with a pitch in his first at-bat. Tyler Wade replaced the star shortstop, who flied out in his second at-bat.

The 23-year-old Torres owned the Orioles last year, hitting .394 with 13 homers and 20 RBIs in 18 games. The Yankees were scheduled to face the Phillies this week, but those games were postponed after Philadelphia faced the Marlins over the weekend and nearly half Miami’s roster tested positive for the novel coronavirus pandemic. So, instead the Yankees played the Orioles Wednesday and Thursday.

The status of Torres’ injury is uncertain.
