Police respond to report of shots fired at shopping mall near Albany

Police from three departments responded to reports of shots fired at a mall outside of Albany Wednesday, according to reports.

No injuries were reported but the shopping center remained on lockdown at 6 p.m. as police continued to search the mall as a precaution, Albany police spokesman Steve Smith said on Twitter.

Two men were seen fleeing the Crossgates Mall in Guilderland on Wednesday afternoon after police received 911 calls of a shooting near a Foot Locker outlet, the Albany Times Union reported.

Guilderland police said mall employees and patrons were ordered to shelter in place but did not provide further details. Other police agencies have been called in.

“It appears there definitely was shots fired,” Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told the outlet. “We’ve got cars on the way over there now. Guilderland is handling it.”

The New York State Police was also dispatched to the scene, the agency said on Twitter.

“State Police and other law enforcement agencies are assisting the Guilderland Police Department with an active investigation at Crossgates Mall,” the post says. “Avoid the immediate area surrounding Crossgates at this time.
