10 shot, one killed in bloody Saturday as NYC shootings skyrocket

One person was killed and at least 10 — including a man holding his 1-year-old son — wounded in weekend gunplay that capped off a week with more than triple the number of shootings than the same week last year, police sources said on Sunday.

Among the victims was Michael Reid, 39, who was hit once in the leg on Carlton Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant at 9:24 p.m. Saturday while holding his toddler, who was not hurt. A 36-year-old man was shot in the back, and both were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

The fatal shooting took place outside the Fly E-Bike store on Nostrand Avenue. The 23-year-old victim was hit in the left thigh and stomach shortly after 4 p.m. and pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

The Saturday shooting spree began at 1 a.m., when a 42-year-old man took a bullet to the right thigh at Blake and Miller avenues.

Just 51 minutes later, a 23-year-old man was struck in the groin on Chester Street.

At 3:25 a.m., a victim who proved to be “highly uncooperative with investigators” was hit on Stanley Avenue in East New York.
