SUV plows into outdoor seating at Queens restaurant, injuring five

Wild video shows a driver smashing through a restaurant’s outdoor dining set-up on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, injuring five people.

The footage from the Sunday, July 5, crash published by NY1 Tuesday shows the driver’s white SUV accelerate, backing over the sidewalk and right into 12 Corazones Restaurant and Bar around 9:30 p.m.

The SUV struck a passing pedestrian and one diner sitting at the two tables and four chairs set up right outside the restaurant’s windows, according to the outlet.

Five people were taken to the hospital, none with life-threatening injuries, the Queens Eagle reported.

The 63-year-old driver was given a summons and released, according to the Eagle.

The restaurant is one of thousands across the city that have set up al fresco tables and chairs in parking spaces in order to reopen while indoor dining remains prohibited amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I stayed closed for more than three months, and just a while ago I reopened and now this. The truth is, it’s not easy,” 12 Corazones owner Samuel Zumba told NY1.
