Patrick Mahomes tweaks $500 million critics after Chiefs re-sign Chris Jones

Patrick Mahomes heard the critics who said his $503 million contract would limit the Chiefs’ spending, and he reminded everyone about it on Tuesday after another big signing by the Super Bowl champs.

After star defensive tackle Chris Jones inked a four-year, $85 million deal, Mahomes tweeted: “And yall thought we couldn’t ….” He added three laughing emojis with the hashtag “run it back,” a reference to repeating as champions.

Jones signed a day before the deadline for teams to agree to extensions with players who were given franchise tags. Jones had previously said he wouldn’t play without a new contract. The 26-year-old defensive lineman, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2019, is a significant signing, having notched 33 sacks and seven forced fumbles in four seasons for the Chiefs.

The big move certainly made Mahomes happy.
