Off-duty NYPD sergeant busted for striking bicyclist, shoving man

An off-duty NYPD sergeant was busted for fleeing the scene after he struck a Brooklyn bicyclist — and shoving another man who confronted him about the incident, cops said.

Sgt. John Vega, 37, was driving in his personal car at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in Sunset Park around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday when he hit a 52-year-old man riding a bike, according to police.

The bicyclist told Vega that he was OK — but during that conversation, another man, 50, started arguing with the officer about what happened, according to police.

Vega then allegedly pushed the man, causing minor injuries, and took off.

Cops arrested him just after 4 a.m. Thursday.

He was charged with assault and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

He has since been suspended from the department without pay.
