Tina Fey, Lin-Manuel Miranda among stars to join NYC’s virtual high school graduation

Big Apple celebrities including comedian Tina Fey, “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, rapper Pitbull and actor Kenan Thompson will star as special guests at the city’s virtual high school graduation on June 30, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday.

“This is about giving kids a graduation they were going to miss and think about it your whole life you look forward to high school graduation, because of the coronavirus 57,000 kids were going to without it,” de Blasio said on PIX11 Morning News.

“This is about celebrating kids that have been through so much. We gotta give them some extra love we gotta give them some extra appreciation,” he said.

Hizzoner also reminisced about his own high school graduation in 1979 from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Massachusetts where classmates called him “Senator Provolone.”

“That was my nickname in high school, one part that they thought was going to go into politics and one part celebrating my Italian heritage,” he said.
