Protesters leave trail of paint down 5th Ave. in ‘Blood on the Street’ march
Around 100 protesters left a trail of red paint down Fifth Avenue on Thursday as part of a so-called “Blood on the Street” march against police brutality — with at least one arrested.
At least one of the demonstrators spray-painted “BLM” (Black Lives Matter) on a street sign near The Metropolitan Museum of Art and was arrested — as the rest of the group chanted “Let him go!”
“This is art and it’s supposed to be revolutionary,” said the protester, who gave the pseudonym Lenz.
“I just tagged the sign … because black lives matter and so do black artists,” he said as he was being cuffed. “It felt really, really good.”
His charges were pending Thursday evening, police said.
The protest — billed in a flyer circulating online as a “Blood on the Streets.. march and visual representation for black lives” — took off from 110th and 5th Avenue at around 1 p.m.
Shelby Brown, one of the organizers, told The Post she wanted marchers to spill red paint because “they are not taking notice.”
“You can’t ignore what’s clearly going on in this country,” she said.
Still, only some of those taking part brought paint to drip on the streets.
Two people lugged buckets of paint, while some used spray cans or water bottles and at least one protester was spotted with a small tube of oil or acrylic paint.
The group chanted “F–k Th Police” and “Defund the NYPD” as they marched, flanked by more than two dozen officers on bikes and in cars.
In front of Trump Tower, some of the protesters stopped to point their fingers and shouted “Shame!” at stone-faced police officers.
Others jeered the cops to “put your mask on.”
The group then continued to move downtown, heading toward Wall Street.
At least one person was spotted carrying a sign that read “The NYPD has blood on its hands.”
It was unclear how much damage the display caused. The Department of Transportation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
