Man nearly drowns in Hudson River after chasing frisbee into water

A 20-year-old man is clinging to life after nearly drowning in the Hudson River Thursday evening, police said.

The man had jumped into the water near a pier at West 10th Street in Lower Manhattan at around 8:30 p.m., police said. He entered the river to chase down a frisbee he had been tossing around with others after it had fallen into the water, according to police.

Three others at the scene jumped in to try and rescue the man, but they were unsuccessful.

The FDNY’s Marine Company 1 quickly lifted the three others to safety, a spokesman said.

But it took more than an hour to find the man, who was eventually pulled out of the water by the NYPD Harbor Unit at 9:45 p.m.

EMS rushed the man to Lenox Hill Hospital where he was in critical condition.
