Man busted with explosives at LI hospital was angry about poor care: authorities

A man arrested for taking explosives and other weapons into a Long Island hospital pulled the frightening move because he thought his boyfriend didn’t receive proper treatment there earlier in the day, authorities said Thursday.

Robert Roden, 33, was in the e.r. of Stony Brook University Hospital Tuesday as his partner was being treated for an unspecified problem. Angry at what he considered poor care, Roden (inset) returned later that day with three homemade explosives, a tomahawk ax and a BB gun, a prosecutor said at his Suffolk County arraignment.

When cops searched Roden’s Mastic Beach home Wednesday, they found booby traps rigged with “live rounds,” along with an AR-15 rifle and 42 grams of meth, according to the prosecutor.

At the hospital, his haul also included a tactical vest, handcuffs and a BB gun possibly modified to shoot 9 mm bullets, authorities said.

On Tuesday night, Roden was stopped by a hospital security guard who reported him acting suspiciously. Cops said they found him with the explosives, and two floors of the hospital were evacuated for several hours.

Ambulances had to be rerouted during the bomb scare.

Roden, who has a past felony conviction, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a controlled substance, authorities said.

His bail was set at $500,000 on Thursday.
