Dozens of people apparently attempted to burglarize a Queens shopping center Monday afternoon after a social media user called for a “loot out,” video of the incident shows.
But stores and restaurants boarded up their windows after learning of the post that called for looting at the Queens Center Mall at 1 p.m.
The video posted on Reddit shows the throngs walking around apparently looking for a place to break in. At one point, some of the wanna-be looters try to lift up a roll-down gate, to no avail.
The original source of the social media post that made its way across Instagram and Facebook wasn’t clear.
Other social media users were quick to attack the planned looting.
“How does looting Queens Center Mall (QCM) help further the #BlackLivesMatter cause?” a user calling himself @thenisnotsilent wrote. “What does that accomplish? Absolutely nothing. Redirect that energy elsewhere and protest without destroying your city in the process.”
