The attorney representing George Floyd’s family plans to announce Monday afternoon the findings of an independent autopsy conducted into his death by former New York City chief medical examiner Dr. Michael Baden.
According to preliminary findings from an official autopsy, the combined effects of being restrained, possible intoxicants and underlying health issues including heart disease likely contributed to Floyd’s death while in the custody of Minneapolis cops, prosecutors said.
Toxicology results can take weeks.
A 911 caller told cops that the man suspected of paying with counterfeit money was “awfully drunk and he’s not in control of himself.”
The autopsy “revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint.
Ben Crump, the attorney representing Floyd’s family, said Friday he was commissioning the family’s own autopsy, conducted by Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson. The results are expected to be released at 3 p.m. EST.
Baden, who previously conducted an independent autopsy of Jeffrey Epstein, also was hired to perform one on Eric Garner, the black man who died in 2014 after then-NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo placed him in a chokehold.
The celebrity medical examiner also previously testified at the OJ Simpson murder trial.
Former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was arrested Friday and hit with murder and manslaughter charges in the killing of Floyd.
A viral video shows him kneeling on Floyd’s neck after the cop and several other officers stopped him last week for allegedly passing a counterfeit bill at a local shop.
Floyd’s death sparked days of protests in Minneapolis that have spread to other cities across the US, including the Big Apple.
Three other officers also have been fired in the case but have not been charged.
