Attempted burglary suspect strikes NYPD officer with car in Greenwich Village

An NYPD officer was injured Monday morning when he was struck by an SUV filled with people who were apparently looting a Manhattan business, police said.

Video posted on Twitter by @nyscanner shows a group of men running to the red Ford Explorer at Fifth Avenue and 8th Street in Greenwich Village carrying various items and some of them jumping inside the vehicle.

Police, who were monitoring the situation around 3:30 a.m., pulled up next to the SUV to block it in, the video shows.

A police officer who got out of the marked vehicle was then struck by the SUV as it fled.

EMS took the officer to Bellevue Hospital Center in stable condition with injuries to his legs.

There have been no arrests and police are investigating.

The incident comes as looters descended on stores in the area amid protests over the police-involved death of George Floyd.
