These at-home coronavirus haircut fails may outlast quarantine

Even in isolation, that’s a hard haircut to live with.

With many barbers and salons still closed indefinitely and the coronavirus quarantines set to continue for weeks in many states, people are experimenting with at-home haircuts — and it’s going horribly and hilariously wrong.

But it’s more than just bad bangs. These botched jobs are a cut above disastrous.

One non-barber mom tried her hand at a fade cut, a popular men’s style where the hair is buzzed in a length gradient upside the head, to disastrous results. “[Prayers] to all the men getting home haircuts in quarantine,” tweeted Brittany Mockbee with photos of the unfortunate final look.

“Gave my man a quarantine fade,” tweeted a woman sheltering in place with her partner. Photos of the back of the man’s head post-cut show a strange situation where the bottom half of his head simply appears to have less hair than the top.

“I am not a professional but thank you all for acknowledging my effort here,” the woman responded after the tweet went viral, racking up over 202,000 likes.

“You and my mom have similar hair[cutting] styles,” responded one unfortunate recipient, with photos of his non-professional pandemic haircut. “Here’s my quarantine ‘inverse’ fade.”

“My boyfriend[‘s] quarantine haircut brought to you by me,” posted another woman who tested her chops as a barber. Her attempt at cutting her boyfriend’s hair resulted in the back of his head looking something like a palm tree, with a bowl cut-like top effect and strange, close shorn hair below.

In addition to fades and partner-done cuts, the quarantine also has many experimenting with bangs and hair color, with hordes of people panic buying drugstore hair dye and clippers.

Pets aren’t safe from the trend of untrained trims either. A botched home groomer recently turned one dog into a “mini alpaca.”
