The Hollywood Reporter finds new editorial director

The Hollywood Reporter — wracked by controversy after its editorial director resigned amid clashes with upper management on April 6 — has tapped a replacement from The Associated Press.

Nekesa Mumbi Moody, global entertainment and lifestyles editor for AP, will take over from Matthew Belloni, the former Hollywood attorney who took the editorial director role on more than three years ago before abruptly departing earlier this month.

According to reports, Belloni clashed with his bosses over stories that were deemed too “negative” to attract advertisers.

The company, once owned by Guggenheim Partners before it was spun off to one-time Guggenheim partner Todd Boehly, was reportedly losing millions of dollars a year even before the coronavirus.
