Listen to Episode 22 of ‘Up In The Blue Seats’: The Mark Pavelich Story feat. Eddie Mio

Up In The Blue Seats Episode 22 Rangers Mark Pavelich
George Kalinsky for Madison Square Garden

It’s a special edition of the “Up In The Blue Seats” podcast this week with Ron Duguay. Brett Cyrgalis has a story out today (and in Friday’s paper) about what exactly happened to former Ranger Mark Pavelich. Cyrgalis joins Ron to talk about the story.

Pavelich is in a Minnesota treatment facility now after being ruled mentally ill. Cyrgalis talks about speaking to family members and friends of his and what he has gone through. Ron speaks about how quiet he was as a player in the ’80s and how he never knew him that well, but that they played well together.

Eddie Mio, a former Rangers teammate of Duguay and Pavelich, then joins the show. The former goalie tells some incredible stories, especially about Wayne Gretzky. Mio talks about playing alongside Gretzky when he first got to the NHL, his time with the Oilers and being the best man at Gretzky’s wedding. He takes the listeners inside his wedding, the bachelor party and the story of him finding out he was going to end up getting traded right before he got on the stage to get married.

Mio also talks about Pavelich and being his roommate when they were on the Rangers. He talks about how quiet he was and not knowing him too well. Mio also tells a few great stories about Studio 54 memories and being Ron’s wingman, including going with him to see Farrah Fawcett on broadway.
