Bill de Blasio hails ‘real progress’ as coronavirus ICU admissions decrease

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday the city has made “real progress” in its fight against coronavirus as he announced the number of patients in intensive care units has dropped, but hospitalizations for suspected COVID-19 are up.

Patients in ICUs across the city’s 11 public hospitals have dropped after a slight decrease from 857 on Sunday to 821 on Monday, while the number of people admitted to Big Apple hospitals for suspected coronavirus shot up from 204 on Sunday to 252 on Monday, the mayor said during his daily press conference.

The percentage of tested who are positive for the virus citywide declined from 35 percent on Sunday to 33 percent on Monday, de Blasio said.

There’s been “overall real progress,” Hizzoner said, but noted, “We still need more progress to get to the point where we need to get to low-level transmission and loosen up restrictions.”
