Rep. Tim Burchett tweets his number for people worried about coronavirus

A House lawmaker wants anyone “feeling overwhelmed or scared” by the coronavirus outbreak to call him on his cell — and he’s giving out his number to prove it.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said in a video uploaded to Twitter Monday that with everybody struggling with the pandemic, nine people in his district had taken their own lives, adding that if people felt like they were going to hurt themselves or others, they could call him even just to talk.

“I know everybody is under a lot of pressure right now with what’s going on with the coronavirus. If you’re feeling all that pressure, it’s getting to you — you know, in the last little bit here, we’ve had nine people in our community who’ve taken their lives, and that’s a horrible, horrible thing, somebody taking their own life,” Burchett remarked in the video.

“If you feel like you’re going to hurt yourself or maybe hurt somebody around you, why don’t you all just call me, and let’s talk,” he continued.

“This is my cell # 865-978-1822. We will get through this together,” he wrote in his tweet.

In his video, Burchett added that he was happy to help people who weren’t living in his Knoxville, Tennessee, congressional district, or individuals who wanted to speak anonymously.

“If I can’t help you, I’ll get you to somebody who can. If you have a question, dealing with your disability or anything else you’re dealing with, congressional stuff, just call our Knoxville office, and we’ll try to keep this line free,” the Tennessee Republican said.

“Together we’re going to get through this, folks, just hang in there.”

A spokesperson for Burchett told The Post that the congressman had heard from many people since posting his number.

In a quote attributed to Burchett from his spokesman, he said, “I’m happy to just listen to what’s on someone’s mind and talk them through it. Together we will get through this and I’m ready to lend my ear to anyone who wants to give me a call.”
