Bears trade for Nick Foles in latest dramatic NFL quarterback domino

Nick Foles is on the move again.

The journeyman quarterback, who jumped off the bench to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory along the way, is now headed to Chicago after the Bears traded a compensatory fourth-round pick to the Jaguars for Foles.

The 31-year-old Foles has connections with the Bears staff as head coach Matt Nagy (Eagles) and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo (Eagles and Jaguars) have coached him in the past.

Foles’ arrival in Chicago likely will send Mitch Trubisky to the bench, or at least create a quarterback competition with the former No. 2 pick who regressed last season. Before landing Foles, the Bears were also reportedly interested in trading for Cam Newton after the Panthers made it known their longtime quarterback was available for the taking.

The Foles trade also clears the way for Gardner Minshew to be the full-time starter for the Jaguars after he and his mustache gained a cult following last season when he stepped in for the injured Foles (broken clavicle) in Week 1.

Foles has three years and $50 million in base salary left on his contract. He will be playing for his fifth different team in his ninth year in the NFL, which also included two different stints with the Eagles. In his second go-around in Philadelphia, he replaced the injured Carson Wentz and led the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII win over Tom Brady and the Patriots.
