NYC FreshDirect delivery times are vanishing amid coronavirus panic

Grocery delivery service FreshDirect apparently has too much on its plate.

No delivery time slots were available on the grocery giant’s site for many Big Apple customers looking to place an order Sunday as stores face massive crowds amid coronavirus panic.

“Today in Ominous Signs: if you go to schedule a @FreshDirect delivery right now, you just uh can’t,” New York-based screenwriter Jason Bailey said on Twitter.

Entering several possible delivery addresses from across the five boroughs into the web site on Sunday returned an earliest delivery date of March 22 everywhere but on Staten Island — where there was still one slot seven days away at 9 p.m.

Replying to one frustrated customer on Twitter, the company explained earlier in the week that the time slots “sell out quickly.”

“Due to a very high demand, delivery timeslots are filling up faster than usual as per the photo you’ve shared,” the company tweeted. “We are still trying to offer are SameDay options; those timeslots open at 6am and sell out very quickly.”

FreshDirect didn’t immediately respond to request to comment.

Responding to the high demand, another FreshDirect customer wrote, “waiting for these @FreshDirect timeslots to drop like they’re Jordan releases.”

Other customers complained about service issues amid the rush to scour food and supplies.

“@freshdirect you guys took on more than you could handle. Why aren’t you responding to your customers?” user Jeri L. tweeted.
