J.D. Davis passes test in return to Mets lineup

PORT ST. LUCIE — J.D. Davis played his first game since jamming his left shoulder Feb. 25 and reported no problems.

“I felt great,” Davis said after playing four innings in the Mets’ 3-1 win over Houston at Clover Park. “There was nothing wrong. I took a few swing-and-misses — no pain, nothing achy in there, no stiffness. I’ve been playing free the last couple of days, no hesitation, so that’s been pretty fun.”

Luis Rojas said Davis will be back in the lineup and in left field on Tuesday.

To make up for the time missed with the shoulder injury, Davis said he’d take extra at-bats on the minor league side.

In the meantime, Davis said his timing is slightly off.

“Once that [soreness and stiffness] cleared out of there after the second or third day, I was taking ground balls,” Davis said.

Erasmo Ramirez tossed a pair of scoreless innings and has pitched well this spring after coming to camp as a non-roster invitee.

Rojas has been impressed with Ramirez’s versatility and experience after eight years in the majors.

“He can start or pitch long relief, so we have him stretched out,” Rojas said. “He gives us options and is a valuable guy to have around.”

David Wright, now a special adviser with the team, arrived at camp on Sunday.
