Manhattan College students report break-ins, sexual assault

Students at a Manhattan College dorm are on edge after two women reported separate incidents when a strange man was in their bedrooms, authorities said Saturday.

A 20-year-old at the Overlook Manor dorms on West 238th Street near Waldo Avenue in Kingsbridge reported she woke up in the middle of the night on Feb. 9 to a man standing over her bed, police said.

The frightened coed began screaming at the stranger to leave, and he ran off.

Two weeks earlier, another student, 21, told cops she woke up without clothes on after a night out and believed she’d been sexually assaulted by a man who broke in, authorities said.

“We are a little tense here. Security is more on the lookout. I know one guard has started to carry brass knuckles,” one student told The Post.

“They told us to use the deadbolts on our doors. I’ve been using them every night,” said junior Laura Flores, 20, who said the school has held town halls on security in the wake of the incidents.

Police are investigating both incidents, though is was not clear if the two crimes are connected.

“Our students’ safety and security are our highest priority at Manhattan College. Our Public Safety and Residence Life staff will continue to do everything they can to support our students and ensure their well-being 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” the school wrote in a statement, according to ABC7.
