How can I choose which charities to donate to?

Dear John: I need some help. I’m a big donator, but I get confused with so many organizations that have good intentions for cures.

For example, I want to donate to nonprofits to fund a cure for cancer — but there are so many, I don’t know which one to give to.

Why can’t all these nonprofits come together in one building, one big organization to find a cure? R.L.

Dear R.L.: There is one big building — it’s called the internet.

Go to Google and search for “cancer research organizations” and more names than you’ll ever be able to donate to will come up.

And if you want to make a wise choice, then look up “charity evaluators” to see which ones are using their donations wisely — meaning, you’d want one where the highest percentage of the money that comes in through donations is put toward a cure.
