Trump praises Rep. Elise Stefanik, New York Post during speech about his acquittal

President Trump on Thursday gave a shout-out to upstate Rep. Elise Stefanik — and a story about her in the New York Post — for her fundraising prowess and staunch defense of him during his impeachment proceedings.

“Elise, I just read this story. It’s most incredible what’s going on with you, Elise. I was up campaigning for helping her and I thought, ‘She looks good, she looks like good talent,’” the president said during his celebratory speech on his acquittal in the White House’s East Room.

“But I did not realize when she opens that mouth, you were killing them, Elise, you were killing them. There’s a big story in the New York Post. I love the New York Post because they treat me well. There’s not too many that do, but today you’re treating me well.”

Stefanik — the upstate lawmaker who became a GOP superstar with her performance in the impeachment inquiry — raised a whopping $3.2 million in campaign contributions over the last quarter of 2019, beating out Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Schiff, the lead House impeachment manager, raked in $2.5 million, while Democratic-Socialist darling Ocasio-Cortez collected $1.9 million in the same period.

Stefanik (R-Schuylerville) shot to stardom in November thanks to her aggressive questioning of witnesses who testified before the House Intelligence Committee about Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

Trump was so impressed that he tapped Stefanik to be one of his advocates during the Senate trial.

Stefanik — who told The Post in November that she’s “proudly the opposite of AOC” — raised $3.2 million from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 for her re-election bid and spent $1.2 million, records show. She had $3.4 million in cash on hand.
