NYPD looking for woman who smashed MTA card readers with hammer

Cops are hunting for a woman who was caught on video smashing three of the MTA’s new contactless fare payment systems during the anti-cop protest last week.

The woman exited the turnstile at the 145th Street subway station, produced a hammer from her bag and smashed the readers before fleeing on Jan. 31, cops said.

Each OMNY reader costs $2,000, according to the MTA.

Several other stations throughout the city were vandalized during the protest last Friday, including anti-cop graffiti and pouring glue inside the MetroCard readers.

Cops are already looking for two masked suspects who allegedly poured glue inside the MetroCard readers of three turnstiles, plastered others with anti-cop stickers, and chained emergency service doors open, allowing straphangers to enter free of charge, police said.

Decolonize This Place, one of the groups behind the protests, calls for a police-free transit system in New York City.

The opposition comes as the MTA and NYPD strengthen police presence on subways and buses to resolve fare evasion, sex crimes and attacks on transit workers.

More than a dozen arrests were made following last Friday’s protests.
