A mother left her healthy newborn daughter at an Upper Manhattan church earlier this week with a note that said she couldn’t raise the child because she was “raped” and a “drug addict,” police sources said Thursday.
“Please help I can’t have this baby I was raped and I’m a drug addict,” the mother reported in a hand-written note left at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Washington Heights on Tuesday, the sources said.
A receptionist at the church told The Post that the woman knocked on the door and handed the baby over.
“She looked new. She was wet. She was a pretty baby. Very pretty,” the receptionist said.
The baby, believed to be about three hours old, was “in a bag wrapped in clothes,” a police source said. Cops deemed the baby “Jane Doe.”
She was taken to Columbia Presbyterian and appeared to be healthy.
