UK woman finally finds mystery couple from viral proposal photo

They finally said yes.

After a UK photographer’s snapshot of a hilltop proposal went viral, she has now found the mystery couple.

Charlene-louise Johnstone was on a family hike at Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham, England, on Saturday when she noticed a man on one knee proposing to a woman. She snapped a picture of the sweet hilltop moment but didn’t want to intrude. Instead, she posted the photo on Facebook along with a plea to help find the couple so she could share the picture with them.

“A few people have said to whack this on fb to try and get the pic to the people in it. Spotted someone propose at the top of Cleeve Hill today. Didn’t fancy running up to them and giving them the photo and intruding in their moment 🤣 so if anyone wants to help share see if we can find them as I’m sure they’d like the photo,” she wrote on Facebook, garnering 17,000 shares.

On Monday, Johnstone’s efforts paid off: She found the couple, who asked to remain anonymous but gave her permission to post their photo on Facebook.

“Just want to say a huge congratulations to this lovely couple on their engagement. They’ve reached out to me, and although they’d currently like to keep their names anonymous, they’ve given me permission to share this photo,” Johnstone wrote. “They are over the moon with the photo I took, the reaction and all the lovely comments received 🥰 love a happy ending x.”

This isn’t the first time a would-be engagement photographer tried to track down some unwitting subjects after a proposal. In October 2018, Michigan-based Matthew Dippel captured a similar moment at Yosemite National Park’s Taft Point and was determined to track down the mystery couple. After about three weeks of posting on social media, he connected with them.
