Former University of Texas at San Antonio football player Michael Egwuagu was allegedly captured on a doorbell camera confessing to the murder of his pregnant sister, according to a new report.
Egwuagu, 25, allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab his 32-year-old sister, Jennifer Ebichi, multiple times in her home outside the city of Pflugerville Friday, The Austin American-Statesman reported.
Ebichi was in her first trimester of pregnancy and the unborn child also did not survive.
“I killed Jennifer,” Egwuagu can allegedly be heard saying in footage captured by the doorbell camera as he left his sister’s home, according to an affidavit for his arrest obtained by the outlet.
Witnesses told police they heard the brother and sister fighting inside the home — and later saw a smiling Egwuagu walking out, holding a bloody knife and making that same confession, CBS Austin reported.
Martin Egwaugu, Michael’s older brother and Ebichi’s twin, told police he showed up at the home after receiving a 4:10 p.m. text from his sister, the Statesman reported.
Inside, he found his twin lying on the kitchen floor in a large pool of blood with at least a dozen stab wounds, according to the report.
And outside the home, he told police, his brother was kneeling on the ground as though praying, the paper reported.
When Martin approached, his brother told him he was “one of the good ones,” according to the report.
Austin — who played safety at UTSA between 2013 and 2016, according to the university’s website — was busted on the scene and charged with murder, according to the report. He is being held at the Travis County Jail on $500,000 bond.
