Matt Rhule wants no part of Browns mess

Matt Rhule isn’t going to leave Baylor for any NFL job.

No, the hot NFL coaching candidate is going to be careful about his next move, and he is steering clear of one chaotic situation as he declined to interview with the Browns, according to ESPN. Josh McDaniels is considered a top Browns coaching candidate and they have requested interviews with several other candidates.

There is serious mutual interest between Rhule, 44, and the Giants, who fired Pat Shurmur Monday morning after two dismal seasons.

In addition to the Giants job, Rhule is expected to be a top candidate for the Panthers’ coaching vacancy, per ESPN. Carolina has already interviewed former Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who is set to interview with the Giants this weekend.

The Browns fired Freddie Kitchens Sunday evening after just one season. After being hyped all preseason following the addition of Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland went 6-10 and missed the playoffs for the 17th consecutive season. The Browns have finished under .500 in each of the last 12 years.
