Heartwarming moment Ohio cop reunited 3-year-old with lost stuffed animal

This is an exemplary case of awwwww enforcement.

An Ohio State Trooper has been hailed as a hero after reuniting a young boy with a stuffed animal that he’d lost on a highway. The boy’s mother shared the heartwarming story on Facebook Sunday, where it’s since gone viral.

Leah Sharkey was driving with her 3-year-old son, Camden, who had his beloved plush rabbit “booboo” in tow. The motoring mom says the trip took a wrong turn when, unbeknownst to her, Camden “decided to put booboo out the window going 77 miles per hour on the Ohio turnpike,” she wrote in the post.

The errant hare left the toddler inconsolable over the loss of his furry friend as Sharkey tried to locate the missing plush by backtracking — driving in reverse on the side of the road — in a futile attempt to locate it.

However, all was not lost. About a half-mile back, they encountered Ohio State Trooper Alex Schlottag, 24, who asked the tearful mother what the trouble was. Upon hearing of the heartbreaking ordeal, the super trooper took down Sharkey’s number and said “he’d double back to see if he could find booboo,” says Sharkey in her post.

The day was saved when Schlottag called 30 minutes later to say he had the plush toy in his possession and provided a meeting spot for a joyous reunion.

“THANK YOU SO MUCH TO OFFICER ALEX SCHLOTTAG OF THE OHIO STATE PATROL, you have no idea how much it meant to him and i both, we will never forget this,” wrote the grateful mother on Facebook.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol even shared a Facebook pic Monday of Camden holding “booboo” post-reunion. It’s also worth noting that Schlottag had already been named his state highway patrol post’s 2019 trooper of the year earlier this month.

Schlottag’s heroic deed has since garnered an outpouring of support on social media. “What a nice act of kindness. I may be biased but OHIO has the absolute best, dignified Ohio State Troopers!” gushed one cop-lover. “Mad props to state patrol this is really going above and beyond !!!” said another.

This isn’t the first time a public servant has exceeded their job description in order to make a child’s day. In October, Utah firefighters comforted a traumatized little girl by letting her paint their nails after a car accident.
