Inwood fire rips through 6-story building, three injured

Panic struck an Inwood enclave when a fire ripped through a six-story building Saturday, injuring a mother and killing her son, according to police sources.

The blaze began in a second-floor apartment of 80 Seaman Ave. around noon, fire officials said.

“I heard screaming in the hallway, and then they were banging on our doors telling us to get out,” said resident Isaac Chavarria, 27.

“I was in my pajamas and suddenly there’s smoke everywhere, and they told me to evacuate the building,” another tenant told The Post.

Inside the apartment was a woman, 86, and her 50-year-old son, police sources said.

“It didn’t look like he was going to survive,” said Nicholas Taddeo, 31, who lives in the building next door. “It looked like he had burns or a skin condition. They were pushing his chest down trying to resuscitate him and there was black liquid coming out of his eyes.”

Both were rushed to an area hospital. The man was pronounced dead. His mother is in critical condition, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
