Jack Black: Everyone should go vegan because of ‘cow farts’

Jack Black may not be a vegan himself, but the actor said he thinks everyone should be.

Appearing on Wired’s “Autocomplete Interview” segment alongside actress Awkwafina earlier this month, the 50-year-old comedian answered the internet’s most-searched questions about him. In response, Black revealed that he does sing, he does have a band — Tenacious D, he does play guitar, he doesn’t sing “Welcome to the Jungle” in “Jumanji,” he is a nice guy — and he is not vegan.

“No,” he said in response to the veganism question, “but, I would like to be. I am in spirit. And really, it’s time for everyone to consider that lifestyle. Why? For the environment. It turns out, I found out, that vegans are better for the environment. Why? Cow farts.”

While Black did not elaborate further, The Associated Press reports that climate change activists have zeroed in on cow farts because the animals emit methane — which contributes to global warming — in their flatulence.

“Cows are pretty disgusting eaters, with methane coming from both ends,” Christopher Field of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment told AP. “But most of it comes from burping.”

Awkwafina, 31, also answered questions, revealing that she can’t sing well, she can play piano, and she used to get a lot of airplane anxiety.

In May, the “School of Rock” actor released an epic parody of the “Game of Thrones” theme song which quickly went viral. He’ll be co-starring alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan in the upcoming “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which is set to hit theaters nationwide on Friday.
