‘Christmas Chronicles 2’ reunites Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell on Netflix

Real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn will reunite onscreen as North Pole lovebirds Santa and Mrs. Claus in “The Christmas Chronicles 2,” a sequel to the 2018 holiday movie from Netflix.

While the movie won’t come out until next year, in time for the 2020 holiday season, the streaming channel released an adorable first-look photo Friday, depicting the red-suited Russell, 68, and Hawn, 74, getting cozy on a quaint, cobblestone street.

Netflix also posted the image to Twitter with the tagline, “NEXT YEAR, THE MORE THE MERRIER.”

The original film followed young Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) and her skeptical brother, Teddy (Judah Lewis), who have to save the holiday after they hitch a clandestine ride in Kris Kringle’s sleigh — and wind up crashing it after startling the present-giving driver.

In the sequel, Camp, 12, returns as cynical, teenage Kate, who reunites with the jolly old elf when a “troublemaker” named Belsnickel (played by 17-year-old “Deadpool 2” star Julian Dennison) “threatens to destroy Christmas forever,” according to the show’s official synopsis.

Also returning are Lewis, 18, as Teddy and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, 48, as Claire Pierce, the children’s mother. Oscar-nominated director Chris Columbus (“The Help”) will direct and produce, with Mark Radcliffe and Michael Barnathan. The script is written by Columbus and Matt Lieberman (“Scoob!”).
