Giants waive wide receiver Bennie Fowler again

The Giants on Tuesday waived veteran receiver Bennie Fowler for the second time this season. Fowler, who played in eight games and caught 23 passes for 193 yards, was not active for Sunday’s game in Chicago.

With receiver Golden Tate in the concussion protocol and safety Jabrill Peppers likely out with a fractured transverse process, the Giants will need to add a player with some punt- and kick-return experience before facing the Packers this weekend. One option could be Alex Bachman out of Wake Forest, who currently is on the practice squad.

Former Giants linebacker Carl Banks, for the first time since he became eligible, was named one of the 25 semifinalists of modern-era players for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2020.

Banks, the No. 3 overall pick in the 1984 NFL Draft out of Michigan State, won two Super Bowls with the Giants. The list of 25 players will be reduced to 15 finalists, with five ultimately elected.
