Flames’ TJ Brodie taken to hospital after collapsing in ‘terrifying’ scene

Flames defenseman TJ Brodie was taken to the hospital Thursday after collapsing to the ice and convulsing during practice.

Reporters on the scene said practice came to a halt when Brodie fell in what was described as a “terrifying moment” by Kristen Anderson of the Calgary Sun. Multiple reporters said it appeared Brodie was having a seizure.

“TJ Brodie experienced an episode on ice at practice today. He is alert and responsive and has been transported to local area hospital for evaluation. We will provide a further update when available. Thank you,” Flames GM Brad Treliving said in a statement.

Brodie, 29, is in his ninth full season with the Flames and has registered eight assists through 21 games this season.
