Trump calls for complete support, not just fight against impeachment

President Trump on Sunday called on Republicans to fully support his “perfect” Ukraine call and not just attack the impeachment inquiry.

Trump appeared to take aim at a number of party members starting to attack his July 25 chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy while still arguing it was not deserving of ousting an elected president.

“Republicans, don’t be led into the fools trap of saying it was not perfect, but is not impeachable. No, it is much stronger than that. NOTHING WAS DONE WRONG!” he insisted on Twitter.

“The call to the Ukrainian President was PERFECT. Read the Transcript!

“There was NOTHING said that was in any way wrong.”

His Tweet came just hours after Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) raised his clear concerns with the call during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I believe it was inappropriate. I do not believe it was impeachable,” he told the show.

“There’s a reason we let murderers and robbers and rapists go free when their due process rights have been violated,” he said, saying you cannot “sweep process under the rug.”

He even suggested that the call was no worse than Trump’s conduct throughout his time in the White House.

“Is there some sort of abuse of power that rises to that threshold that is different than the American people have been hearing for three years?” Thornberry said. “I don’t hear that.”
