Trump hosting Erdogan same day as first open impeachment hearing

President Trump confirmed Wednesday that he’ll host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on Nov. 13.

The high-profile visit is the same day the first public impeachment hearings kick off in the House. Ambassador William Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent will be the first televised TV witnesses, House Democrats also announced Wednesday.

“Look forward to seeing President Erdogan next Wednesday, November 13th at the White House!” Trump tweeted Wednesday, after his phone call with the president.

Erdogan has been harshly criticized by bipartisan American lawmakers and by international allies for launching an attack on Kurds in Syria, after US troops pulled out of the area.

Trump signaled the two leaders are on good terms despite the attack.

“Just had a very good call,” Trump tweeted of their conversation which covered the border tensions.

“He informed me that they have captured numerous ISIS fighters that were reported to have escaped during the conflict – including a wife and sister of terrorist killer al Baghdadi.”

The White House had previously confirmed to The Post that the Turkish leader would be coming on Nov. 13, but that was before the bloody assaults escalated.

Last month the US House overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan resolution rebuking Trump for his pullout of troops in Syria that paved the way for a Turkish offensive against US Kurdish allies.

The House voted 354-60 on a resolution that opposed Trump’s decision to end US military efforts at the border that protected Syrian Kurdish forces from the Turkish assault.
