Mike Francesa is planning another December goodbye at WFAN.
The long-time host confirmed to Newsday that a major switch in his program is coming next month.
“I am leaving afternoon drive this December. Details to come,” Francesa, 65, told the paper.
The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported in September that Francesa would be moving most, if not all, of his content from WFAN’s airwaves to Radio.com’s digital presence. Both companies are owned by Entercom.
Francesa retired from WFAN two years ago with his alleged final show coming on Dec. 15, 2017. He returned four months later with big talk of pushing the “Mike’s On” app that turned into a bust after he tried selling it for $8.99 per month. All the content is now free on Radio.com, where Francesa now will devote the majority of his energy.
“Mike Francesa will continue to be part of WFAN, and will soon also have an expanded role on Radio.com,” Susan Larkin, the Regional President of Entercom New York, said in a statement.
“While we are still finalizing details, this is an exciting move to bring more of Mike’s iconic sports talk content to fans across broadcast and digital in new, engaging ways wherever and however loyal sports fans want it. Stay tuned as we will be sharing more details in the weeks to come.”
Francesa’s show now airs 3-6 p.m. weekdays. His departure comes at a ratings low point with ESPN Radio rival Michael Kay beating him 7.4 to 6.0 — including Francesa’s Internet stream — in the first month of the fall ratings book, which ends on Dec. 4.
