Weird But True

Man busted at Newark Airport for packing toilet paper ‘gun’

Trying to get this on a flight was a real crap shoot.

Security at Newark Airport detained a passenger Tuesday after an X-ray scan of his carry-on bag appeared to show he was packing this “gun” — only to find it was really a gun-shaped toilet-roll holder.

“Yes, this most unusual revolver was not designed to spin bullets,” the Transportation Security Administration said in a release Thursday, alongside a photo of the novelty item.

“It was designed to spin toilet paper.”

The TSA quipped that the unidentified traveler “didn’t watch his ‘Pees and Qs’”

“Instead of rolling through the security process, this cowboy got stopped up when he was found to have a most unusual item in his carry-on bag,” the agency said.

The TSA has stepped up its vigilance at the X-ray monitors after a spike in gun seizures at airport checkpoints this year.

Just one day earlier, a Morris County man was busted at Newark allegedly trying to sneak a loaded .22- caliber handgun past airport security.

He was the 11th traveler arrested with a firearm at Newark Airport this year, according to NJ.com.

Meanwhile, although the benign bathroom fixture that triggered the false alarm is harmless, it still not was a no-go at the airport.

The realistic replica violates TSA security guidelines because passengers are not allowed to take imitation firearms through airport checkpoints in carry-on bags.

TSA agents gave the passenger three options: place the faux gun in his check-in luggage, turn it over to security or pass it on to a friend for safe keeping.

He chose No. 2.
