Yankees take Justin Verlander deep twice to open ALCS Game 5

The Yankees brought their bats to Game 5.

The Bronx Bombers took it to Justin Verlander in the bottom of the first inning of their ALCS Game 5 matchup, tagging the Astros’ starter for two home runs and a 4-1 lead.

DJ LeMahieu got the Yankees on the board with a lead-off solo shot, and Aaron Judge followed with a single. He advanced to third on Gleyber Torres’ double up the foul line, and they both scored when Aaron Hicks took Verlander deep.

The Yankees had been struggling to score runs early and faced an especially tough task in Verlander, who had allowed just two longballs against them in his last four playoff outings.
