Minshew-mania may have descended on your fantasy football leagues, but not Gardner Minshew’s.
The 2019 sixth-round pick from Washington State plays in a dynasty league with friends from high school back in Mississippi. The Jaguars rookie quarterback goes by the team name, “Trust the Process,” and boldly elected to start from scratch by redrafting an entirely new team. A noteworthy omission: himself.
A screenshot of the team that was shared on a fantasy football subreddit shows Minshew has an impressive 4-1 record thus far. He selected fellow rookie Kyler Murray as his quarterback. Alvin Kamara, Josh Jacobs, Austin Ekeler and David Montgomery are his running backs. D.J. Moore, Tyler Boyd and Chris Godwin are at receiver with Austin Hooper as his tight end.
Overall, a very solid squad.
Minshew wasn’t on anyone’s fantasy radar during the preseason with Nick Foles slated as the clear starter. That changed when Foles broke his clavicle in Week 1, but the mustachioed juggernaut has been impressive both on and off the field. Minshew, who opts to stretch in only a jock strap in the locker room, has stolen fans’ hearts by keeping the Jaguars afloat while exuding an energy that feels like “Florida Man” crossed with Aaron Rodgers.
After stepping in for Foles, Minshew has been the 11th-best quarterback in fantasy, averaging 18.1 points per game. His fantasy production puts him four spots behind Kyler Murray, and ahead of Rodgers, Jared Goff, Jimmy Garoppolo and Phillip Rivers to name a few. He has established himself as a legitimate QB1, which is reflected in his increasing ownership percentages. A popular Week 6 waiver wire add, he is currently rostered in 57% of Yahoo leagues and 49% of ESPN leagues. According to Minshew’s friend, Tre Polk, the Jacksonville signal-caller remains a free agent in their league.
Polk lauded Minshew’s fantasy prowess and told ESPN “he must have known something about Melvin Gordon, and he worked out with Josh Jacobs and liked what he saw so he took him, and he took the Patriots defense, and he grabbed Austin Ekeler … Bottom line: He redrafted, like, his whole team, and he’s tied for first place. He just sees the game in a different way.”
